Sergey Sobolev was born in 1982. He has received all his musical training in Moscow: under Natalia Suslova, the ’’Honourable Pedagogue of the Russian Federation’’ at the Academic Musical College of Moscow. He continued His éducation with Prof. Mikhail Voskresensky for 8 years at Moscow State Conservatory and in the post graduate studies Sergey Sobolev was the laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Competition and the Santander Piano International Competition.

He received the 4th prize at XIII Tchaikovsky, the 3th prize in Scriabin, the 2nd prize and the Audience prize at Franz Liszt last year (Weimar-Bayreuth, Germany), just to name a few from his activities at the competition. The pianist has participated in such prestigious musical festivals as Usedomer Musikfestival in Germany (2002, 2006), Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad(Switzerland, 2010) and others. Sergey played many piano solo and chamber music recitals (together with artists as L. Isakadze, Casals String Quartet, and many others.

He has collaborated with orchestras under the batons of V. Poliansky, M. Gorenstein, G.Octors, G. Varga, A. Sladkovsky, A.Levin and other conductors in Russia, Germany, Austria, Holland, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, South Korea, USA. Sergey Sobolev has released two CD’s with the works of Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin and Prokofiev (Gent, Belgium, 2005-2006). He is a final year Masters Student at the Royal College of Music, studying with Professor Vanessa Latarche.

Natalya Romaniw at Woodhouse Music

Programme will include Lieder, Songs and Opera arias including the Mad scene from Lucia di Lammamoor which has earned her great critical acclaim

Welsh soprano Natalya Romaniw was born in Swansea. Natalya’s grandfather, originally from the Ukraine, settled in Wales during the Second World War. Natalya studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the guidance of John Llewelyn Evans where she was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal in her final year.

Operatic engagements have included La Rondine with British Youth Opera, the cover of First Nymph in Rusalka at the Glyndebourne Festival and Anne Truelove The Rake’s Progress at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff for WNYO. More recently she appeared as Giulia in La scala di seta for British Youth Opera, covered the role of Anne Truelove for the Glyndebourne Festival and sang the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor for Clonter Opera.

Already in demand as a soloist on the concert platform, appearances include Messiah in Fishguard, a recital of Rachmaninov Songs at St Luke’s at the Barbican, recitals at the Swansea Festival, Ammanford Arts, in Guernsey and at St David’s Hall Cardiff and as soloist with the Manchester Camerata for their popular New Year’s concerts. She also appears regularly as soloist with the Welsh Male Voice Choirs including the Dunvant, the Morriston Orpheus, Port Talbot and Pontarddulais. For BBC Four Natalya co-presented and appeared as the soprano in the documentary ’’Chopin and the Singer ’’.

Natalya was awarded first prize at the London Welsh ’’young singer of the year’’ and first prize in the 2008 Welsh Singers Competition. In 2009 she reached the final of the song prize in the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Natalya was winner of the Clonter Opera Prize in 2010.

At the Guildhall she has appeared as Arminda La Finta Giardiniera , Tatyana Eugene Onegin, Antonia Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Ellen Orford Peter Grimes, and the title roles of Anna Bolena and Arabella (Opera Scenes) and the title role in Armeida’s La Spinalba. Recent roles include Blanche Les Dialogues des Carmelites and the title role in Tchakovsky’s Iolanta.

Future engagements include the cover of Armida in Rinaldo and First Nymph in Rusalka with Glyndebourne on Tour.

Omri Epstein - piano

Omri Epstein at Woodhouse Music Omri Epstein was born in Israel in 1986. Showing great promise from an early age, he commenced his piano studies at the age of 7 with Sarah Tal at the Israeli Conservatory in Tel Aviv and has been performing regularly since, both solo and chamber music. Omri won the Israeli Conservatory junior and senior piano competitions and was a recipient of the prestigious America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship. Subsequently he has given concerts in France, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, UK and the USA. In September 2002 he moved with his family to the U.K. and was accepted to study at the Purcell School with Ronald Smith.

In the UK he went on to win further prizes in competitions. Having won the Purcell School concerto competition, Omri performed Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 conducted by Damian Iorio at the Royal College of Music. He also played with the Israeli Symphony Orchestra and broadcast on Israeli radio. His concerts took place in such halls as the Marlowe Theatre (Canterbury), Chateau de Versailles (France), Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall among others.As well as participating in international solo and chamber music courses in Belgium, USA and IMS Prussia Cove, Omri has also attended master classes given by distinguished artists such as Alexander Satz, Cecile Ousset, Murray Perahia and Itzhak Perlman. Having won a full scholarship, Omri studied and graduated from the Royal College of Music and also completed an exchange programme with the Universität der Künste in Berlin. His teachers included Ruth Nye, Rainer Becker and Gordon Fergus-Thompson.

In addition to his solo concerts, Omri holds a busy schedule of performances with his family trio, giving concerts around the UK. Most recently he has won the 2nd Prize at the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition.In 2010, Omri was accepted at the Royal Academy of Music on the MA postgraduate course. He is currently working with Sulamita Aronovsky.

Emilie Alford and Tyler Clarke at Woodhouse Music

Emilie Alford - mezzo-soprano
Emilie graduated from the RSAMD in Glasgow in 2008, and is now at the Royal College of Music, London, studying with the acclaimed soprano Janis Kelly and has sung with world-class musicians including Malcolm Martineau, Ann Murray, David Daniels, Roger Vignoles, Sarah Walker, Della Jones, and Mark Padmore.
She recently covered the role of Elisa (Tolomeo) for English Touring Opera's 2009 Handelfest; other operatic experience includes Cis (Albert Herring, RSAMD/Landestheater Salzburg). Emilie won the RCM Concerto Competition, the RCM's Lieder Prize, and in 2009 was a finalist in the Ozone Les Azuriales Young Artists Competition in Nice, France. Upcoming engagements include Ravel Shéhérazade with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, and Eurilla (Il Pastor Fido, RCM).


Tyler Clarke - tenor
Tyler is currently the Gisela Gledhill Vocal Scholar at the Royal College of Music International Opera School and studies with Timothy Evans-Jones. He held the Peter Pears Scholarship, the Drapers’ De Turckheim Vocal Scholarship. Roles include La Resurrezione (London Handel Festival), Aminta Atalanta (London Handel Festival), Il Podesta La Finta Giardiniera (RCM) and Lysander A Midsummer Night’s Dream (RCM), the title role in Albert Herring for Co-Opera Company, debut recital at the Crush Room, Royal Opera House, Elijah at the Royal Festival Hall with Kurt Masur, Tamino Die Zauberflöte (RCM). His prizes include Les Azuriales Trust Prize 2009.

Stephanie Oade - cello
Stephanie Oade is a postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music. She is the recipient of awards from the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund, Countess of Munster Musical Trust, Craxton Memorial Trust and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
She was awarded a first class honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded the Leonard Rose Cello Prize for the highest Final Recital mark. In 2009 she gained a PGDip (Performance) with Distinction and became a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music, earning the right to add the letters FRSM to her name.
She regularly performs with the BBC Philharmonic, Liverpool Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras and her chamber groups (cello and guitar and piano trio) perform widely across the UK. Stephanie’s debut CD is due for release early in 2010.

Duncan Glenday - piano
Since completing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Duncan has performed extensively throughout England and Scotland, in recital and as concerto soloist. Concerto performances include Beethoven's second piano concerto with the English Philharmonic Orchestra on the Isle of Man, Brahms’ concerto no1 with the Oldham Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s “Emperor” with the Halifax Symphony Orchestra, concertos by Mozart with the Amadeus Orchestra, and Copland and Dohnanyi with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded for BBC Radio 2, has performed at the International Lake District Summer Music Festival, the Ryedale Festival, the Belfast Festival. Duncan has enjoyed success in various prizes and competitions, including first prize in the 1994 John Ireland Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the 2002 Calabria International Piano Competition in Italy.

John Casken: Deadly Pleasures, based on a narrative poem by Pushkin in a graphic translation by
D. M. Thomas, conjures the sultry, sensuous world of Cleopatra’s court.

Schumann: melodramas Ballade vom Heideknaben and Die Flüchtlinge unfold mysterious scenarios on moorland and water, ‘Grand’ Second Violin Sonata was described by Joachim as ‘overflowing with noble passion’, its last movement reminding one off the sea ‘with its glorious waves of sound’, and the delightful ‘Forest Scenes’ for piano solo complete the programme.

Crispian Steele-Perkins at Woodhouse Music

Crispian Steele-Perkins - trumpet
A trumpet soloist who is world-renowned for the quality of his performances and wide-ranging musical experience.Education Guildhall School of Music His interest in collecting and restoring antique trumpets led him to begin performing on them - you may have heard Crispian’s playing introducing the BBC’s ‘The Antiques Roadshow’. His unique performances and recordings on genuine historic instruments led Continuo Magazine to describe him as ‘the world’s leading player of the Baroque trumpet’. Playing alongside some of the world’s greatest singers, Crispian’s purity of tone and artistic subtlety has received critical acclaim for more than three decades. Recordings of Handel’s ‘Let the Bright Seraphim’ with Dame Kiri te Kanawa and ‘Eternal source of Light Divine’ with James Bowman are familiar to many. More recently his performances with Emma Kirkby, Lynne Dawson, Carolyn Sampson, Bryn Terfel and Lesley Garrett have firmly established his reputation. His work in the studios has included more than 80 film, TV scores and commercials, appearing alongside Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Bob Geldof, Sir Harry Secombe, Kate Bush, Elaine Page, Chris Rea and Lulu. His many Solo recordings extend from Purcell to Gershwin and his largest "live" audience was 133,000 at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Caroline Clipsham - piano
After attending Chethams School of Music, Caroline was awarded a scholarship to study with Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. There she won numerous awards and prizes including Claud Beddington Prize for Beethoven, the Gregory Salzman Piano award and the Sheriff’s Prize for the highest final recital marks.
Caroline Clipsham at Woodhouse MusicCaroline has performed at the Wigmore Hall and St. John’s, Smith Square in London, the National Concert Hall, Dublin; Chichester Cathedral; Dorking Halls; Guildford International Music Festival, the International Holland Music Sessions and also in South Africa as well as performances around Europe, Canada, New Zealand, and a tour of Eastern Europe.
Caroline has made a documentary for Carlton television which featured her playing Chopin’s original piano. She has recorded for ORF (Austrian National Radio) and has performed with the Ulster Orchestra in "Sonorities", Festival of Contemporary Music, for BBC Radio 3. She has also recorded a solo piano CD and a DVD, and has performed recently for Cherie Blair, and in the Middle East where she played for the Emir of Qatar.

Newly discovered music by Vaughan Williams and others
8th November 3pm

Alan Rowlands and Alistair Sims will perform new found piano music by English Composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams. They will perform on two pianos and this will be a historic event prior to their recording the concert on the Albion Label on 14th November here at Woodhouse. Alan Rowlands was,of course,a close friend of John Ireland and world premiered some of his works.

Bring me the Head Of Papa Haydn
29th November 4pm

An entertaining and witty black humour music theatre, devoted to Papa Haydn written by Piers Burton-Page, broadcastor and music critic who has worked at the BBC and the Proms.

Performed by the author and Gerald Davidson, actor and playwright. This play is preceded by an introduction from Piers about the life and works of Haydn, whose anniversary year it is. Includes musical samples.

Acis and Galatea
6th and 7th September

Handel's Acis and Galatea with singers and Orchestra from the RCM, Sunday 6th September at 4pm, with Natasha Day as Galatea, Alex Cadden as Acis, Jimmy Holliday as Polyphemus and Oli Johnston as Damon. Alasdair Gemmel Kitchen conducts.

Sir Thomas Allen

The world-renowned baritone Sir Thomas Allen will be giving Open Master Classes with singers from various conservatoires. He will be giving master classes on Mozart and beloved opera arias. There will be a gala recital at 7pm with an optional supper and the opportunity to meet Sir Tom and the artists afterward.

Colin started the cello at the age of three and has recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music. In 2004 Colin won the National Youth String Quartet Competition with The Azurra Quartet. He has performed at The Wigmore Hall, Palace of Versailles, The Chelsea and Cambridge Festivals and in Howard Goodhall's television series, 'How Music Works'.

Laura was a scholar at The RCM where she gained a First-class Honours degree and Postgraduate diploma. In 2007 she won the prestigious Song price at Kathleen Ferrier awards and Lies Askonas Prize. She has performed with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and sang Bach's St. John's Passion with Mark Padmore as the Evangelist.
